This guide was created to help students locate business data for finance and accounting.

In-Depth Company Financial Data

Example: I need the income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement and ratio data for Amgen. Note: The income statement contains Earnings Per Share Data.

  • Type in either Amgen or the ticker symbol (amgn) into the box
  • Select Amgen
  • Click Company Financials
  • Use the pull-down menu to select the type of financial data (Balance Sheet, Income Statement or Cash Flow)
  • Use the pull-down menu to select the number of years of financial data (3, 5, 7, 10 or 15)
  • Change the currency to US Dollar if searching for a foreign firm such as Samsung Electronics Co Ltd
  • Select the Years you need with the pull-down menu
  • Click Refresh
  • Click the link for Ratios

Example: I want to compare Tesla's Source of Gross Margin, EBITDA P/E Ratio, and Market Cap against competitors.

  • Type tesla motors into the search box and click search
  • Click Competitors

Example: I want to compare financials for two companies in the same industry: Tesla Motors and General Motors and Ford.

  • Type tesla motors into the search box and click search
  • Click + to Company Analysis List at the top of the screen
  • Search for Ford
  • Click + to Company Analysis at the top of the screen
  • Go to "My Mergent Tools" on the right hand side and select Company Analysis List
  • Click the link for Company Comparison Report
  • Select your companies by clicking >>
  • Click the plus signs + for Financials
  • Click the types of financials (and/or ratios) that you need
  • Click > to add the financials (and/or ratios)
  • Click the box for Include Average
  • Select the years you want
  • Use the pull-down menu to select Microsoft Excel format
  • Click Create Report

Example: I need a 10-K (annual report) for Costco.

  • Type in either costco wholesale or the ticker symbol (COST) into the box
  • Select Costco
  • Click Reports
  • Click the most recent 10-K or Annual Report

Example: I need 10-Q reports for Amgen.

  • Click the link for Government Filings
  • Click the circle for ticker symbol and type amgn into the box
  • Scroll to the section for Filing Date Search and click the circle for Last 12 months
  • Scroll to Filing Type and select 10-Q
  • Click Search
  • Use your browser's Edit/Find in Page feature to search for terms such as investing

Please note: If you are researching a foreign company traded on a U.S. exchange you will search for the company’s 20-F instead of the 10-K.

Locating the Most Recent Financial Data On A Corporation

Example: I need to compare the most recent stock prices for Pepsi and Coke.

  • Type in PepsiCo Coca Cola
  • Stock prices listed within last 15 minutes when market is open.

Company Financial Analysis

Example: I need to find investor recommendations on Tesla.

  1. Use the search box on Mergent to look up Tesla (Ticker: TSLA).
  2. On the company search results page, go to the Reports tab.
  3. Select Equity Reports from the options.
  4. Locate the pdf of the equity report to read the individual analyst equity report from Mergent.

 

Example: I need a stock report on Cisco.

  • Type Cisco into the search box at the top of the screen and click search
  • On the left-hand side of the screen, go to the section for Research and click Equity Research
  • Click the PDF icon to access the report

 

 

Example: I need to find the bond rate for Ford.

  • Type Ford into the search box at the top of the. screen and click search
  • Find the Company report for Ford
  • On the left-hand side of the screen, go to the section for Fixed Income and find the section labeled Securities Summary
  • On this page is the YTW (use the yield for current YTW)
  • Please note: not all companies issue bonds
