When A Patron Isn't in WMS

Visitor Information

Members of the Malibu community are welcome to visit the Payson Library on the Malibu campus to attend library events and exhibits and consult the print collections. Additionally, members of the general public who wish to use government documents online or in print at Payson Library may do so with the assistance of a librarian.

However, computers, printers, and scanners in any Pepperdine Campus Library are reserved for use by Pepperdine students, faculty and staff. But, if members of the general public are interested in accessing the facilities and services you are welcome to join the Friends of the Library or become a Crest Associate. For more information about Friends of the Library and Crest membership see Giving.

Note: Interlibrary loan services are always limited to current Pepperdine students, faculty and staff.

Crest Associates* – Heidi Bernard in charge of this if there any questions (x4745). Email from Heidi: Each Crest Associate has their own card and it has an expiration date. All Crest cards should only be used if the date is current and the user is the same as the card name on the front of the card. To confirm the identity, a driver’s license should be presented or other equivalent id. If there is ever a question about a Crest user, please contact our office at 310-506-4745. Please leave a message if it is after office hours and we will get back to you the next day. I am happy to support a no current or correct card, no access policy. When a new Crest Associate wants to use the library we need to:

a) Check to make sure they have the necessary credentials.

b) *They need a barcode added to their Crest Associate card (get a barcode behind the circ desk in the first left hand drawer by the circ walkway. It is labeled Barcodes for Others). THEY DO NOT NEED A PEPPERDINE UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES CARD.

c) Add them to WMS.

Since 2004, all Pepperdine graduates automatically transition to Alumni status in the Peoplesoft database. Those alumni patrons should be automatically uploaded into the WMS system with appropriate authorization.

However, earlier graduates are NOT in peoplesoft, even if they have gotten an alumni ID card from the alumni office.

The alumni are currently receiving alumni ID cards that look like the picture shown on this site. These cards have the correct barcode necessary to be scanned.

If they have an older card, it should still be thought of as valid. The barcode just might not scan because the "2" is missing in front of the id number. We also need to keep in mind that there are times when alumni are just not in your system, and the library can simply add them. This is if they present an alumni id card. If they do not have one and it is during office hours, the library can contact our office and we can verify that they are alumni. If they are at Payson, we can encourage them to drop by our office and get a temporary id card and order a permanent id card. If they are not at the Payson location, we will encourage them to go online and order the card at the site I gave earlier.

If they are alumni and DO NOT have an alumni card they need to go to the alumni office where they can register and get a temporary alumni ID card.

Alumni

Your site states clearly that they must have this id card when they drop by. It would seem that they would know that if they do not have the card and they are visiting after our office hours, you will obviously not be able to confirm their status.

Visiting Professors Not in WMS

Visiting and adjunct professors should have Pepperdine ID cards. However, we always run into cases where a visiting professor might not be in our WMS system yet. Please have a staff member add the visiting professor into WMS. Then please put the information on Cathie or Sally's desk or email it, because they will need to follow up on this and figure out why the professor is not in the system. Cathie or Sally need to call the department’s office assistant and make sure the paperwork is done. There have had times in the past where they have lumped 2 professors with the same names together under the same name and other times there has been problems with the paperwork.

Dependents

There is a Pepperdine ID card for dependents. Dependents are spouses and children of a faculty member (usually). They can check out up to 5 items. If they do not have an actual Pepperdine dependent card we usually will check out the items to the faculty member.

OCLC Faculty Reciprocal Borrowing Program.

Our Faculty Who Want to Go to Other Institutions
