About Industry Ratios

Ratios that are important to one industry may not be important to another.  Use the three library databases listed for help in identifying key industry ratios. 

IBIS World

Example: I need key industry ratios relevant to my company, L'oreal.

  • Type l'oreal into the box and click search
  • Select the report titled "Cosmetic & Beauty Products Manufacturing in the US"
  • From the report landing page, locate the tab for "Key Statistics" and click on "Key Ratios"

S&P Net Advantage Key Industry Ratios

Example: I want to find out what key industry ratios are related to my company, Boeing. 

  • Type boeing into the search box at the top of the screen and click search
  • Go to the left-hand side of the screen and go to the section for "My Links" and then select Industry Surveys
  • Go to the "Aerospace & Defense" heading and click the PDF icon
  • Look for the sections on "Key Ratios and Statistics" and "How to Analyze a Company in this Industry" for help identifying the ratios and financial statement items that are the most important to evaluate the company's financial health.
