International Programs

This guide will provide a basic overview of library resources available to students at our IP campuses

Welcome!

We at the libraries are proud to support our students by providing a space for inquiry and discovery. To do this for our students studying abroad, each international campus is equipped with its own library staffed by a library ambassador. If you are actively studying abroad or curious about it, this page will outline some of the library services available to you.

IP Campuses with libraries include:

  • Buenos Aires
  • Florence
  • Heidelberg
  • London
  • Switzerland

International Program Library Ambassadors

While we do not have any of our full time librarians abroad, we do have our wonderful student employees! Each library will have one library ambassador who is trained to answer basic research questions, provide editing assistance, and locate physical and digital resources for you.

Unique Physical Collections

What would a library be without some books? Every library on one of our IP campuses will have a unique physical collection available for use while studying abroad. There are two ways to find out what we have at one of our libraries, browsing and looking books up online. Let's go over each method below.

  1. Browsing: All Pepperdine libraries organize their physical items using the Library of Congress system. Each item is given a call number, an aplhanumeric code which represents what the book is about, which determines where it goes on a shelf. To know what all those letters and numbers mean, go here to view a breakdown. Now you're set to know what all those labels mean on our books!
  2. Looking Online: When you go to our library website and search a topic in the search bar, you can filter the results to show you what's at one of our specific locations. This filter is under the section labeled Held by Library, which located on the left hand side if using a computer or on top of your results page after clicking Group & Refine This Search

Asychronous Research Help

Every subject taught at Pepperdine has a specific research guide, our name for a curated list of information resources picked to help you best succeed in your academic work. Each guide is embedded into Pepperdine's learning management system, you can find it on each course's menu. You can also click here to view all of our guides.

In addition to our guides, librarians are happy to work with you on projects asynchronously. All the research librarians available to you in Malibu are available via email and, if the time difference works, via zoom. No matter your class, major, or research focus there is a librarian for you. Every subject at Pepperdine has a dedicated librarian who specializes in certain topics and will be able to assist with more complex tasks. To learn which librarian is your librarian, view our list of research librarians here. Or you can use our Ask a Librarian feature to ask your question and we will send it to the right librarian.

Lastly, many of the items in our collection are available electronically. From the latest scientific research to books from the 19th century, accessing many of Pepperdine Libraries only requires a CAS login.
