Locating Articles on Behavior in Organizations

Depending on your assignment, you may be asked to find articles about a variety of topics related to organizational behavior in order to support your ideas. Tip: If your topic relates to change management and leadership in organizations, please also refer to the  Leadership and Change Management in Organizations Guide.​ Below are some recommended strategies for finding articles on organizational behavior.

Search Terms

Here are examples of search terms you can use in Business Source Complete:

  • Organizational
  • Teams in the workplace
  • Group decision making
  • Leadership
  • Corporate culture
  • Personnel management

Example Searches in Business Source Complete

Example: I need scholarly articles about organizational change.
  • Type organizational change into the first box and change the default field to SU Subject
  • You can type additional terms such as employees into the second box
  • Scroll down and click the box for Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journals
  • Click Search
  • Click on the "All Filters" button on the left-hand corner (under the last search bar) of the search results page to open the limiters options on the right-hand side of the screen
  • Scroll down to limit your results to current articles using the Publication Date filter
Example: I need scholarly articles about teamwork in the workplace.
  • Type "teams in the workplace" into the first box and change the default field to SU Subject
  • You can type additional terms such as workplace OR "work environment" into the second box
  • Scroll down and click the box for Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journals
  • Click Search
Example: I need articles about organizational behavior at Google.
  • Type Google into the first box
  • Type organizational into the second box
  • Click Search
  • If you want to restrict your search results to academic journals, click the box for scholarly articles
  • Use the slide bar on the left-hand side of the screen to limit your results to current articles
  • You can try other search terms such as corporate culture, leadership, management or personnel
  • It's also possible to search several search terms at once by using the OR command: type the name of the company into the first box and type organizational or "corporate culture" or leadership or management or personnel into the second box.

Search Tips

Tips for effective searching:

  • Pick the essential keywords for your topic
  • Words such as impact, effect, affected, etc. should NOT be used in your searches
  • Using quotation marks around a specific search term or search terms with two or more words will held focus the results to that exact phrase
  • Synonyms searches can be helpful in finding additional articles (ex. Workplace OR "Work Environment" OR "Place of Work")
  • Select your keywords and phrases and type them into separate boxes
  • Make sure to use the appropriate Boolean Operator (AND, OR or, NOT) to generate relevant results on your topic
