10 or 30 yr Treasury Rates:
- Go to the "Yield" column and use either the 10 year or 30 year bonds.
Example: I need the long-term debt and shareholder's equity for Boeing.
- Click Company Security and search for Boeing or the ticker symbol (BA)
- Click the link for Financials on the left-hand side
- Click the link for Balance Sheet
- Long-term debt and Shareholder's equity data will be available
Example: I want the tax rate for Boeing.
- Click Company Security and search for Boeing or the ticker symbol (BA)
- Click the link for Financials on the left-hand side
- Click the link for Income Statement
- On the Income statement screen, click the link for Growth to obtain the Tax rate
Example: I want the bond yield for Boeing
- Click Company Security and search for Boeing or the ticker symbol (BA)
- Click the link for Financials on the left-hand side
- Click the link for Credit on the left-hand side
- Click DCS Detail
- Consult a bond with the furthest away maturity date
- Use the YTW (Yield to Maturity) rate
Example: I need daily S&P 500 prices to calculate the total return.
- Search with SPX as a security and select and select S&P 500
- Click the link for Prices on the left-hand side and choose Price History
- Use the pull-down menu at the top of the screen to choose the date range (including Custom)
- Click the arrow key pointing down to download the data into excel
Beta
Rather than obtaining the data from sources such as Yahoo Finance or Bloomberg, students need to calculate the beta.
