Literature Reviews - GSEP

This guide is intended to provide guidance on writing a literature review for GSEP students.

Using a Citation Management Software - Zotero

You're going to be looking through a lot of materials for your review, and it's easy to loose track of a particular citation or how you got to a source.  Using a citation management software, like Zotero, can help you keep track of:

  • Where you searched (name of database, catalog, etc.)
  • When you searched
  • Search terms and combinations of terms that were successful
  • Search terms and combinations of terms that were not successful
  • Searches or leads you want to pursue next

Zotero is a free, open source desktop application that allows you to collect, organize, cite, and share research. It works on Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems.

Zotero also offers ZBib.org, a free citation generation app, which can help you quickly create a bibliography in any citation style without having to download the citation management software.

Install Zotero

Go to the Zotero website at the link above, click on "Log in," and register for a free account.
