ENG 465 British Victorian Literature

Library resources for your study of Victorian literature

Course Description

The Victorian period is distinctive for the way that poetry was revered as the highest form of literary production at the same time it was being replaced by the emergence of more popular genres like the novel. This course considers popular literary genres within the context of the poetics of the Victorian period, examining both canonical and non-canonical writers and poetic theory in order to trace emerging patterns of literary taste as poetry moved away from its preeminent position as high art cultural production.
