Course Description

We will study the concept of Digital Nature, which is a new perspective on the natural world–one that sometimes overturns the very concept of what we understand as nature. From landscape photography to augmented reality, NFTs and video games, work of this kind challenges conventional notions of how we experience our environment and how we learn about our world. From early internet projects like Telegarden to memes like “touch some grass,” to farming simulators and video games like Walden, A Short Hike, and Stardew Valley, we will explore this idea through discussions, readings, guest lectures, and first hand experience with a variety of digital media.
