English 380 studies ways in which the mythology of the antebellum and post-emancipation American South functions within the larger American narrative. In this inquiry we will examine many of the requisite tropes of the region in an attempt to expose the gender and racial inequities at work in this mythology. Texts include Gone with the Wind, Beloved, Their Eyes Were Watching God, and Django Unchained.
