Promoting Your Research

The Pepperdine Libraries subscribe to SelectedWorks from Berkeley Electronic Press.

SelectedWorks allows Pepperdine faculty to share their work by creating a personalized 'search engine optimized' website in minutes. You can submit papers directly to the Pepperdine Digital Commons repository and build a network of colleagues following your work.

What about these other options?

Academia.edu is a popular social network for faculty (primarily from the humanities) to communicate and share their research. Here are some issues with Academia.edu

  • Despite the .edu domain, Academia.edu is actually a for-profit company

  • Academia.edu has made offers to promote faculty works for a fee

  • Uploading research works that are not open access could violate copyright

ResearchGate is another social network for faculty (mainly from the natural sciences) to collaborate and share their research.

  • If your paper isn’t open access, you should check with the publisher before uploading papers to ResearchGate

Open Access

"Open Access is the free, immediate, online availability of research articles coupled with the rights to use these articles fully in the digital environment." -- SPARC (the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition)

OA is an option for authors looking for the freedom to share their work with more researchers by removing subscription paywalls and publisher's rights.

For more information about OA concerns and considerations explore this OA guide.
