Academic Integrity and Citation Styles: Stress Busting Tips!

Note-taking:

  • Distinguish direct quotations from your own summary or paraphrase
  • Identify the source you are taking notes from at the top of your piece of paper
  • Carefully label photocopies or print outs that you have – always know the original source
  • Hint: email article citations to yourself from article search engines--some will even email in different citation styles!

 

Avoiding Stress

  1. Take careful, complete & organized notes
  2. Be scrupulous in constructing papers
  3. If you work on a computer, save and back-up
  4. Difference between primary and secondary sources
  5. Understand instructor’s expectations
  6. Verify validity
  7. Use caution when using other student’s notes
  8. Give yourself enough time to do your work well
